
Kimon Hadjibiros
Professor Emeritus
Kimon Hadjibiros is a Professor Emeritus at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), where he has taught Ecology, Environmental Policy, and Environmental Management for over two decades. With academic roots in Physics from the University of Athens and advanced studies in Computer Science and Ecology in France, he has combined a strong scientific background with interdisciplinary insight. He began his career as a researcher in French institutes and went on to serve as an environmental expert and consultant in Greece, participating actively in national environmental services and spatial planning. He was a key contributor to EU environmental research, acting as a permanent member of European Commission committees and coordinating or leading more than 37 research projects. He also served as President of the Schinias-Marathon National Park and played a pivotal role in creating the FILOTIS database, a major digital repository on Greek biodiversity and ecosystems.

His scholarly output includes two scientific books, 17 book chapters, and over 170 publications across journals, conferences, and environmental studies. Beyond academia, he has played a leading role in science communication, regularly writing for newspapers and environmental magazines, and participating in public discourse on sustainability and education. Hadjibiros has been a vocal advocate for integrated, interdisciplinary approaches to complex environmental challenges such as water and waste management, landscape protection, tourism impacts, island sustainability, and environmental policy. His work bridges science, governance, and civil society, offering comprehensive frameworks for addressing the tensions between development and ecological integrity.
