
Andreas Andreadakis
Professor Emeritus
Professor Emeritus Andreas Andreadakis is a distinguished figure in the field of environmental engineering and water management. He served as Professor at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), where he directed the Sanitary Engineering Laboratory (SEL) from 1997 to 2018 and twice chaired the Department of Water Resources and Environmental Engineering (1996–98 and 2003–05). He also directed the NTUA Postgraduate Program in “Water Resources Science and Technology” between 2008 and 2010, shaping the academic path of countless engineers and researchers.

From November 2009 to August 2012, he held the position of Special Secretary for Water at the Hellenic Ministry of Environment, Energy, and Climate Change. During this time, he was also responsible for managing the National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF) Operational Program “Environment and Sustainable Development” (2011–2012), overseeing a budget of €2.2 billion for environmental investments across Greece.

He holds a Civil Engineering degree from NTUA (1973), an MSc in Environmental Control Engineering and Resources Utilization (1975), and a PhD in Civil Engineering (Environmental Science and Technology) from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, UK (1978).

Professor Andreadakis has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed articles, 30 book chapters in 14 volumes, 5 books, and over 80 research reports. He has led or contributed to more than 80 research projects and over 150 consultancy assignments, focusing on water and wastewater treatment, sludge and solid waste management, water reuse, quality assessment, modelling, and integrated water resources management.

He played an active international role as a long-time member of the Governing Board of the International Water Association (IWA, 1988–2010), a member of its Scientific and Technical Committee (1996–1999), and Chair of the IWA Specialist Group on Pre-treatment (1996–2006). Nationally, he contributed to the Standing Committee on Environment of the Technical Chamber of Greece (1991–2001) and authored several expert reports for the World Health Organization.

His career spans decades of academic leadership, technical excellence, and policy influence, establishing him as one of Greece’s most respected experts in environmental engineering.
