CARDIMED in September: Water Connects Us All — From Classrooms to Scientific Forums

September has been a month of learning, engagement and scientific exchange for CARDIMED.

How can we make climate knowledge accessible to younger generations while also advancing scientific exchange on Nature-based Solutions?

From Karystos to Chania, CARDIMED is engaging different audiences in understanding how nature can help us respond to climate and environmental challenges.

Researchers from the Sanitary Engineering Laboratory of the National Technical University of Athens, coordinator of CARDIMED, visited the 1st Primary School of Karystos for an interactive educational workshop on climate change and Nature-based Solutions.

Following an introduction to the causes and impacts of climate change, the students participated in a CARDIMED card-matching game, connecting different Nature-based Solutions with challenges such as water scarcity, flooding and biodiversity loss. Using a Mediterranean map, they also explored how CARDIMED’s DEMO sites are implementing and testing these solutions in real-life contexts.

The conversation continues in Chania, Crete, at the International Water Association conference dedicated to wetlands and Nature-based Solutions. Bringing together around 350 international researchers and professionals, the event provides an important platform for presenting research developed within CARDIMED and exchanging knowledge on nature-based approaches to water and climate resilience.

Organised by the Technical University of Crete and Professor Alexandros Stefanakis, the conference connects international scientific expertise with practical solutions for more resilient regions.

From inspiring children’s curiosity to contributing to international scientific dialogue, CARDIMED is helping make knowledge about Nature-based Solutions accessible.
