Sanitary Engineering Laboratory, of the National Technical University of Athens (SEL–NTUA) participated in the 9th General Assembly of the REMEDIES project, coordinated by the National Institute of Chemistry, Slovenia, on 6th of October 2026.

The General Assembly provided an opportunity to reflect on the project’s achievements, exchange insights with partners and discuss how the knowledge and solutions developed can support future efforts towards healthier waters.

During the meeting, Daphne Argyropoulou presented SEL–NTUA’s activities related to the Demo Sites in Greece and Croatia, outlining the Laboratory’s role and contributions within the project.

Throughout REMEDIES, SEL–NTUA has focused on monitoring and assessing solutions aimed at preventing plastic and microplastic pollution and promoting water circularity. Lab's work supported the evaluation of these technologies, contributing to a better understanding of their effectiveness and potential for wider application.

Behind this contribution stands the wider SEL–NTUA REMEDIES team: Prof. Daniel Mamais, Prof. Constantinos Noutsopoulos, Prof. Simos Malamis, Dr Andriani Galani, Daphne Argyropoulou (PHDc) and Dr Tadej Stepišnik Perdih. A great example of teamwork bringing together scientific expertise, commitment and a shared vision for healthier aquatic ecosystems.

The General Assembly was followed on 7 October by the Future of Plastic (R)evolution – REMEDIES Final Conference, which brought together more than 300 participants from over 25 countries, alongside scientists, innovators, industry representatives and policymakers. Through more than 20 speakers and panellists and the presentation of 10+ innovations, the conference explored how scientific knowledge can be translated into action against plastic pollution.

Alongside the conference, the 10th REMEDIES Cluster Meeting connected projects and partners from across the EU Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters”, supporting knowledge exchange, collaboration and the transition from REMEDIES to REMEDIES 5.0 — and from pollution prevention towards ocean restoration.

A warm thank you to the REMEDIES coordinators and all project partners for the excellent collaboration and shared commitment throughout this journey!
