Project summary and objectives
The project is part of the Mission Ocean program under Horizon Europe, which aims to contribute to ocean and water restoration by 2030. The main objectives include:
Protecting and restoring marine and freshwater ecosystems and biodiversity (aligned with the EU Biodiversity Strategy 2030).
Preventing and eliminating pollution in oceans and waters (following the EU Action Plan for Zero Pollution).
Making the blue economy carbon-neutral and circular, supporting the European Climate Law.
Developing innovative tools and solutions
The project delivers various tools and solutions, including:
RestoreMedTOOLS, a suite of tools that includes:
A digital toolkit for sustainability assessment.
A business feasibility assessment tool (led by NTUA).
Environmental Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) tools.
Blue Doughnut Diagnostic Workshops to assess project alignment with sustainability principles.
Funding and investment tools, helping projects secure financial backing for long-term implementation
Our role in the project
SEL plays a key role as a research performer and technology developer in the project. SEL is responsible for:
Developing technical feasibility support materials.
Leading the creation of business plan portfolios and investment strategies .
Contributing to RestoreMedTOOLS, a digital toolkit for Mediterranean-scale solutions.
Assisting in technical assistance reports for Financial Support to Third Parties (FSTP) projects.
